So first exactly, what is Doom? You mean you’ve never heard of it?
Doom is the legacy amongst the video game world for diving headfirst into the realm of first person shooters (FPS, for short). Developed by id, Doom was released the December of 1993; its successor, Doom 2, in 1996. The Doom engine introduced an immersive environment ranging from abandoned techbases to the depths of hell, forcing the player to play ferociously in slaughtering hordes and hordes of hellspawn. Bundled with the release of these games were the first level editors to see the light of day. Players from around the globe hopped onto this overloaded bandwagon in churning out custom content, most of which has been uploaded to the net in some shape or form.
Wind the clock almost 20 years in the future, and the community is still thriving. With the introduction of updated software, engines, and new features, the continued success of Doom is visible even today despite the AAA titles like Call of Duty or Battlefield.
Without further ado, welcome to your first step into the world of modding for the two decade old legacy: Doom. Whether you’re a newbie who’s tiptoeing around the surface, or you’re already knee-deep in generating your own mods, [Mapper's Block] will hopefully have something suitable for you. This website is dedicated to Doom
The main software that I will be using for my demonstrations will be DoomBuilder 2 (http://doombuilder.com/) and Slade 3 (http://slade.mancubus.net/). For testing, any engine that supports minimall Boom compatibility will be suitable. (In case you don’t know what that means, it’ll be covered later. For now, google and download “ZDoom”, “Zandronum” or “prBoom+” to get started)
